Panic attacks can stop you developing in your career, they can influence the way you bring up your children and they can restrict you from going out and enjoying life. What is the best way to stop panic attacks?
Sometimes you may know what the trigger or cause of the panic attack is. But for others it can feel like a mystery which makes the thought of having another one a very scary prospect.

We start by identifying the underlying problem that is causing the panic attack. This may or may not be something you are consciously aware of but we are skilled at using techniques that can very quickly get to the root cause of the problem.
Panic attacks don’t just happen for no reason – even though it may feel like it. Often they are the culmination of years or months of stress, negative thought processing and or beliefs that you have created about yourself and the world around you. It’s not uncommon to not remember the past event that has led to your current fear.
We will help you to re-think about the past event that has caused the fear, this in turn enables you to release the worry and anxiety connected with the event so that it no longer need negatively impact you.
Once you know what’s causing your panic attacks, you can re-learn how to think about the situations/triggers so that you can combat them.
Why doesn’t traditional counselling or CBT sometimes stop panic attacks? *
We often treat people for panic attacks who have already tried traditional counselling and CBT. Our belief is that these can be unsuccessful for some people because they work on the premise that you need to accept things. But having a panic attack is not something you need to accept. It’s something that you need to re-frame to enable you to stop experiencing them. There has also been research conducted that shows that talking over and over a problem can actually make it worse. Some therapeutic approaches even advocate allowing yourself to spend 15 minutes a day to spend worrying. We do not! This can actually make things worse.*
What is the best treatment to stop panic attacks?*
In our view the best treatment to stop panic attacks is one that deals with the source of the panic. Panic is fear. Fear is controlled by the subconscious mind. Therefore a treatment that deals with the root of the issue and helps to reprogramme a fearful mind into a calm one is a highly effective approach. Treatments that deal with logic and rational thinking don’t tend to be as effective because, lets face it, fear is often irrational. You now you shouldn’t be scared of that presentation at work or a night out with friends but something seems to take over.
The Mindset Clinic uses a combination of Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Hypnotherapy to treat panic attacks. These approaches deal with the subconscious where the fear is stored.
By using NLP techniques we can help teach a person how they create their problem or fear. Then we teach new ways of seeing and experiencing the world which helps retrain the mind to process and interpret the world in a more calm and rational way.
